Returning to the office after Covid lockdowns and working from home? Here are some tips to get yourself ready.
It’s been over a year since most of us have been in an office. We’ve gotten used to working from home, in our pyjamas, with our pets by our side. But now, as vaccine rollout continues and Covid-19 cases decline, many companies are planning to bring their employees back to the office.
If you’re one of the lucky ones who gets to go back to working in an office, there are a few things you should keep in mind:
- If you haven’t already, get vaccinated against COVID-19. This will not only help protect you, but also your co-workers.
- Your office might look a little different than it did pre-pandemic. There might be plexiglass partitions between desks, more hand sanitising stations, and social distancing signs everywhere. Follow the new rules and guidelines to keep yourself and your co-workers safe.
- Take some time to adjust to being back in an office environment. You might be used to working in complete silence at home, so the noise level in an office can be overwhelming at first. Wear headphones if you need to and try to find a spot to work where you can focus.
- If you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, communicate with your supervisor. They may be able to help you with a transition plan or make accommodations to help you feel more comfortable.
- Be respectful of your co-workers’ space. Many people are still uncomfortable with being in close proximity to others, so give them the space they need. Don’t hover over their desk or stand too close when you’re talking to them.
- Things may not be exactly the way they were before COVID-19, so be flexible. Your company may have new policies in place, and you may have to adjust to a new way of working.
It will take some time to get used to being back in an office, but it can be a fun and exciting change. Be safe, be respectful, and enjoy being back in the workplace!
