Start the work day in a routine as if you are going into the office. Having a regular start and finish time, added lunch break and 20 minutes of exercise will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle between work and home life. Spending an extra five minutes in the morning to get dressed into (comfy) work clothes, putting on makeup or styling your hair may also help you create that mindset of “work mode”.
Working from home has been found to interfere with sleep, especially for those who may find it difficult to switch off from work when at home. By not working in your bedroom will help you to decompress at the end of the working day.
Organising regular online weekly meetings and catch ups with work colleagues and managers will help to maintain healthy relationships. As natural everyday social encounters with each other isn’t happening from working at home, it helps to communicate with one another about work performance.
Technology has made it a lot easier for everyone to stay connected, but it makes it more difficult to be able to separate work life and home life. Having a digital detox during the evenings may help you to switch off from work. See if you can do this to spend more quality time with your family, or do the things you want to do after work hours.
Try to go outside at least once a day for 30 minutes – especially during a scheduled lunch break. Walk to the nearest cafe and grab a coffee – while practicing social distancing of course!
